EU teachers invited to France (May 2009)

In the course of the EU-COMENIUS project, teachers are invited to a training session in Observatoire de Haute-Provence (OHP), south of France.

Coming from 14 EU countries, the selected teachers will spend 4 days at OHP, free of charge, to learn new skills to teach science to their pupils. Dates are: 7 - 10 May 2009.

A series of pedagogical resources will be produced to support science teaching. All these documents will be translated in the languages of the 14 partner countries.

Several sets of real astronomical data will be prepared for the exercises, including measurements with SalsaJ, scientific analysis and interpretation of results. The flexibility of the SalsaJ tool will enable the pupils and teachers to extend the exercises with their own observations.

During the sessions, the school teacher will be trained to make astronomical observations using local or remote telescopes. This will allow them to use a telescope with their pupils and to discover, for example, the Moon or the Milky Way.

After the session, the trained teachers become partner resources agents and contribute to dissemination of the pedagogical resources in their country.
