Comenius training session in France

In the context of the Lifelong Learning Programme, EU-HOU propose special European training sessions in France, at Université Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris

2nd session: 17-21/01/2011 DEAD-LINE FOR REGISTRATION : 15 SEPTEMBER 2010

The main goal of this training is to re-awake the interest for science in the young generation with inquiry-based methods. Renewing of the teaching of science is fulfilled through astronomy as a well-established source of motivation, and through the use of new Information and Communication Technologies - ICT. Involving teachers in a variety of research-based astronomical projects, we will excite, enthuse and motivate them to teach science/technology/maths. The training is intended to enhance basic competencies of teachers and develop higher level skills and expertise, primarily in ICT, maths and physics area. The EU-HOU project will provide the opportunity for trained teachers to get involved in stimulating international collaborations and to enthuse their pupils to study sciences/technology/maths at a higher level.

Global Hands-On Universe (GHOU) & Galileo Teacher Training Program (GTTP)

Garching, Germany, Aug. 1-7 (inclusive)

Dear Global HOU Community,

We have had a fabulous year of training GTTP/GHOU teachers, reaching approximately 5000 teachers around the world this year!! Now GHOU is one of the largest coordinated astronomy education networks in the world, and a pathfinder for Global Science Education.
Now, to continue building momentum:

We announce the 2010 GHOU Conference in Garching, Germany (near Munich)

The Conference Program will evolve over the next months.

The first three days (GTTP) will be training on the use of several new, great emerging resources (the Universe Quest Game, GHOU activities -- Exo-planets!, International Asteroid Search Campaign!, Measuring the Expanding Universe from Supernovae!, etc.).

The registration forms and detailed program will appear soon on the site above!

Partial Lunar Eclipse on December 31, 2009: Happy New Year!

For the first time in 353 years we have observed an eclipse of the moon on New Year's Eve, happily ending the International Year of Astronomy 2009. Since it was a partial eclipse, the moon was never becoming totally immersed. One of the EUHOU teachers' took this picture, a gift for a Happy New Year 2010 !!
